PI Schools: Pre - Year 5

Under NCLB, an escalating series of interventions and consequences occur if a school does not meet their Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) targets each year. Program Improvement (PI) is a formal designation for Title I-funded schools that do not make AYP for two consecutive years on the same indicator (English-language arts, mathematics, Academic Performance Index (API), or graduation rate). A school is eligible to exit PI status once it makes AYP in all areas for two consecutive years.

Title I schools must implement required services and/or interventions each year they are in Program Improvement. Directing the work of Program Improvement requires specialized knowledge and action on the part of the site administrator. The following specifies the requirements and recommended actions for each year.
